First week in Queensland, Australia

Yet another long but good flight and we are here in Australia! The plan is to rent a campervan and go down the coast together with our two UK friends we met during our China trip. But first off we had to stay in Cairns for a couple of days to see what it had to offer for us adventurous travelers!

A day out on the great barrier reef on a catamaran. Amazing diving and snorkeling, manta rays and giant clams everywhere! Not a single stinger jellyfish in sight, no sharks either for that matter :-(

Here we are in our blue smurf suits, almost fully protected from the evil jellyfish. I feel the urge to do more diving after this, unfortunately everything is so expensive here, it costs $70AUD for a dive here in Australia while it only was about $14AUD in Thailand (Koh Tao).

Random waterfall #551 along the way……

This is our awesome campervan Stevie! (With overheated brakes)

The beaches here (Mission Beach on the picture) just keeps on going and going, and they are completely empty. No wonder why people like it here!

Singapore!

Bye bye Malaysia, Singapore here we come! We have heard so many stories about the borders to Singapore, but unfortunately they did not live up to our expectations! They barely even looked at the x-ray screen when we went through! However I did throw away my chewing gums, because the penalty caning doesn’t sound that nice…

These electronic shopping malls were all over the city, just image how much time we spent wandering around in these…

Singapore has their own Universal Studios of course (but they don’t record any movies here?!). Second amusement park in just a week, however this was way better than the indoor one in Kuala Lumpur!

Skyline photo over the marina bay.

There is nothing wrong with the beaches here in Singapore if you just take a 20 minute walk out to the small island Sentosa. Although the beaches are human made, but who cares? :-)

Kuala Lumpur in four days

Malaysia is a very different experience from what I have gone through the last past two months. It is like a combination of all countries in south-east asia with a (big) touch of the western world.

One moment we are standing in the middle of central city, Chinatown, watching chinese citizens prepare dim sum, just a few minutes walking later we pass by dozens of indian restaurants and shops. Adding another five minutes walk ends us up in a huge shopping center called Berjaya Times Square where both malays, chinese and indian people are competing with the very best special prices for me! Just next to that lies a more glamorous shopping district for designer clothes, jewelry and watches… but their booze was fairly cheap at least!

Berjaya Times Square, very good for cheap shopping even though it looks

Great city view from KL tower

Lurking around in the city at night taking pictures :)

Somehow I feel more comfortable here just walking down the streets, the people here are not as pushy here as in Thailand. The hotels have higher standards, you can flush the toilet paper and drink tap water… We even have a guy opening the door for us, for the same price as we barely got a air-conditioned room in some parts of Thailand!

Oh by the way, it’s apparantly christmas now… Merry x-mas everyone!!!
……. wait a second ……

Ao Nang, Krabi

First place to get sunburnt, that must be something good, right? A new island to explore for every day that passed, either by longtail boat or kayak, that is really a good way to discover how great of a place Krabi really is. Even though Krabi Town was a bit disappointing at first, Ao Nang definitely made sure that the trip was worth it.
