The Gold Coast & Sydney

Lots of action this week. After leaving Brisbane we took the greyhound buses down to Surfers Paradise, a quite exploited touristy city, but it was pretty okay anyway even though we didn’t do any surfing. The plan was initially to meet up with some german guy we met while sailing whitsundays and climb Mt Warning, which is 1156m! However the plan didn’t really work out for the german so we decided to rent a car for a couple of days instead because it’s so troublesome to get around here and the buses are more expensive than renting a car…

It was a quite troublesome ascend/descend in some parts, and it didn’t help that we were walking in the dark (~3am) with flashlights. (Mount Warning is the highest mountain on the Australian continent’s easternmost point, it is the first place you can see the sun every morning!)

But it was so worth it at the summit even though it took over 5 hours in total!

Oh yeah… Skydiving Byron bay at 14000ft! :D

After a flight down to Sydney, enjoying the cold weather… Cheers!

4WD on Fraser Island!

Yet another adventure… Renting a 4WD (Toyota Landcruiser) to discover Fraser island next to Bundaberg seemed like a good idea to most out of the trip, instead of jumping aboard the lame tourist tours. The terrain and tracks were quite tough to get through since it has not been raining for quite some time, it took over an hour to get from the west side to the east side and the distance is less than 20km.

The 120km long beach on the eastern side of Fraser island. Quite annoying to share the “road” with airplanes…

Lake Wabby, next to a huge sand dune… People were bodyboarding down the sand into the lake!

And finally the most beautiful lake I have ever seen: Lake McKenzie.
White beach, crystal clear freshwater, ~26c…

Unfortunatly I don’t have a picture of us in the car but I will add it later on :)
